Taxonomy
Hoplophractus was named by Cabrera (1939).

It was synonymized subjectively with Eosclerocalyptus by Perea (2005), Perea (2005), Zurita and Aramayo (2007).

It was assigned to Hoplophorini by Hoffstetter (1958), McKenna and Bell (1997); and to Glyptodontoinei by Fernicola (2008).
