Kokomopterus was named by Kjellesvig-Waering (1966) [Sepkoski's age data: S Prid Sepkoski's reference number: 360]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Kokomopteroidea, Kokomopteridae.
It was assigned to Eurypterida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Kokomopteridae by Lamsdell et al. (2010), Dunlop et al. (2020).
