Carcinaspides was named by Glaessner (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. Its type is Carcinaspides pustulosus.
It was assigned to Cyclida by Sepkoski (2002); to Cyclidae by Glaessner (1969), Schweigert (2007); and to Halicynidae by Schweitzer et al. (2020), Schram and Koenemann (2021).
