Ophiceras subleptodiscus was named by Popov (1939). Its type specimen is TsNIGR 3/5925 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Xenodiscus subleptodiscus by Bychkov et al. (1976); it was recombined as Sakhaites subleptodiscus by Dagis and Ermakova (1990).
