Alalcomenaeus was named by Simonetta (1970) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-u Cm uMid-l Sepkoski's reference number: 778,883]. Its type is Alalcomenaeus cambricus.

It was assigned to Arthropoda by Sepkoski (2002); to Arachnomorpha by Briggs et al. (2008); and to Leanchoiliidae by Lan et al. (2021).
