Eofallotaspis was named by Sdzuy (1978) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Atda-l Sepkoski's reference number: 885]. Its type is Eofallotaspis tioutensis.
It was assigned to Fallotaspidinae by Palmer and Repina (1993), Geyer (1996); to Fallotaspididae by Whittington et al. (1997); and to Olenellida by Sepkoski (2002).
