Tomagnostus was named by Howell (1935) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm mMid-u Cm uMid-m Sepkoski's reference number: 80]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ptychagnostidae by Whittington et al. (1997); and to Agnostida by Sepkoski (2002).
