Malongocephalus was named by Zhang et al. (1980) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Malongocephalus yunnanensis.
It was assigned to Abadiellidae by Zhang et al. (1980); and to Redlichiida by Sepkoski (2002).
