Ceratodus tiguidiensis was named by Tabaste (1963) [lectotype]. Its type specimen is \lNHNP HGS G4, a tooth, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Arganodus tiguidiensis by Martin (1982), Murry (1989) and Schultze (2004).
