Dolichometopsis was named by Poulsen (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Tojo Cm lMid Sepkoski's reference number: 80]. Its type is Dolichometopsis resseri. It is the type genus of Dolichometopinae.
It was assigned to Corynexochida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dolichometopidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
