Praeoculospongia epiconcha was named by Gerasimov (1960). It is not extant. Its type locality is Kamushki quarry, Moscow, which is in a Callovian marine marl in the Russian Federation.
It was recombined as Astrospongia epiconcha by Finks et al. (2004).
