Opsiosoryctocephalus was named by Sundberg (1994) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm mMid-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1089]. Its type is Opsiosoryctocephalus ophis.

It was assigned to Oryctocephalinae by Sundberg (1994); to Corynexochida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Oryctocephalidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).

Pygidium with moderately deep pleural and interpleural furrows, 5 pairs of spines.
