Meringaspis was named by Opik (1967) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm uMid-u Cm Dres-l Sepkoski's reference number: 16,483]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Damesops by Jell and Adrain (2002).

It was assigned to Odontopleurida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Damesellidae by Duan (2004).
