Taxonomy
Illaenus stenorhachis was named by Harrington (1938). Its type specimen is CPBA 4165 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Illaenopsis stenorhachis by Harrington and Leanza (1957); it was recombined as Asaphellus stenorhachis by Meroi Arcerito et al. (2015) and Tortello and Esteban (2016).

M. F. Tortello and S. B. Esteban 2016 | Exoskeleton elongated and elliptical, about 70% longer than wide. Cranidium smooth, glabella almost indistinct laterally, preglabellar furrow ill-defined, convex forward. Genal spines widely based, and short (about 20% of free cheek maximum length). Pygidial border flat to slightly concave, wider anteriorly than posteromedially, barely defined axis in the anterior third of the pygidium. |
