Taxonomy
Turbinites alatus was named by Wahlenberg (1821).

It was recombined as Pleurotomaria alata by Lindström (1884); it was recombined as Euomphalopterus (Pleuromphalus) alata by Kurushin (1986); it was recombined as Euomphalopterus alatus by Roemer (1876), Northrop (1939), Pitcher (1939), Linsley et al. (1978), Rohr et al. (1981), Tassell (1982), Peel (1984), Peel (1986), Wagner (1999) and Wagner (2023).
