Dyscritellina megacanthi was named by Reid (2003). Its type specimen is UTGD 126948 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is M1, Fossil Cliffs, Maria Island, which is in a Sakmarian open shallow subtidal limestone in Australia.
