Menoparia was named by Ross (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u Sepkoski's reference number: 795]. Its type is Menoparia genalunata.

It was assigned to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Remopleurididae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
