Platypeltoides was named by Pribyl (1949) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l O Trem-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Asaphus (Platypeltis) croftii.

It was assigned to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Nileidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
