Pseudobasilicus was named by Reed (1930). Its type is Ptychopyge lawrowi.

It was assigned to Asaphinae by Henningsmoen (1960); to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Asaphidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
