Orthovertella was named by Cushman and Waters (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: C Mosc-u C Step-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Foraminiferida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Hemigordiopsinae by Loeblich and Tappan (1988), Kiessling (2003).
