Remopleurides was named by Portlock (1843). Its type is Remopleurides colbii.
It was assigned to Remopleuridae by Warburg (1925) and Phleger (1933); to Remopleuridinae by Nikolaisen (1983); to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Remopleurididae by Owen (1981), Owen and Harper (1982), Jell and Adrain (2002) and Owens and Fortey (2009).
