Glyptometopsis was named by Rasetti (1961) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Glyptometopsis tumida.

It was assigned to Dokimocephalidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
