Keeneia afflicta was named by Wass (1967). Its type specimen is UQ F43390 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is UQ L2575, Fossil Ridge, Cracow Homestead, which is in an Artinskian coastal siliciclastic in the Buffel Formation of Australia.
