Taxonomy
Stethacanthus gansuensis was named by Wang et al. (2004). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Jingyuan Formation, Jingyuan, Gansu Province, which is in a Serpukhovian shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Jingyuan Formation of China.
