Composita quadricostata was named by Branson (1930). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Wind River Mountains (Top Limestone), which is in a Lopingian carbonate limestone in the Park City Formation of Wyoming.
It was recombined as Hemiptychina quadricostata by Wardlaw (1977).
