Harpides was named by Beyrich (1846) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Trep-u O Llvi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 618,795]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Harpididae.

It was assigned to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Harpididae by Harrington and Leanza (1957), Jell and Adrain (2002) and Beech and Lamsdell (2021).
