Taxonomy
Illaenus arcturus was named by Hall (1847). Its type specimen is NYSM 4499, a cephalon/head (cranidium), and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Thaleops arctura by Shaw (1968), Amati and Westrop (2004).
