Turritella walmstedtii was named by Klipstein (1843).

It was recombined as Loxonema walmstedti by Kittl (1894); it was recombined as Zygopleura walmstadti by Pan (1977); it was recombined as Zygopleura walmstedti by Yin and Yochelson (1983).
