Maryvillia was named by Walcott (1916) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-l Sepkoski's reference number: 379]. Its type is Maryvillia arion.

It was assigned to Ogygiocarinae by Walcott (1916); to Kingstoniidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
