Peltura was named by Agassiz (1846) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-u Cm Trep-l Sepkoski's reference number: 81]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Olenidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
