Perischoclonus was named by Raymond (1925) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 795]. Its type is Perischoclonus capitalis.

It was assigned to Styginidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
