Taxonomy
Prosopiscus was named by Salter (1865) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Cara Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Prosopiscidae.

It was assigned to Prosopiscidae by Fortey and Shergold (1984), Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
