Taxonomy
Ptycholepis magnus was named by Bürgin (1992). Its type specimen is PIMUZ T.996, a skeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Point 902, Monte San Giorgio, Bed 134, which is in an Illyrian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal dolomite/shale in the Besano Formation of Switzerland.
