Rinconia was named by Hupe (1953) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Boto-u Sepkoski's reference number: 928]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Ellipsocephalidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
