Taxonomy
Shantungia was named by Walcott (1905) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Dres-l Sepkoski's reference number: 464]. It is not extant. Its type is Shantungia spinifera.
It was corrected as Shangtungia by Jell and Adrain (2002); it was misspelled as Shangtungia by Sepkoski (2002) and Ren et al. (2017).
It was assigned to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Damesellidae by Chu (1959), Jell and Adrain (2002) and Ren et al. (2017).
It was corrected as Shangtungia by Jell and Adrain (2002); it was misspelled as Shangtungia by Sepkoski (2002) and Ren et al. (2017).

G.-Y. Ren et al. 2017 | Axial furrow wide and distinct. Cranid-ium subrhomboidal in outline exclusive of librigenae, and withfrontal projection as a long spine, a short club. Glabella trun-cated conical with obscure lateral furrows. Fixigenae moderatelywide, strongly convex. Palpebral lobe from moderately longto long, located posteriorly; anterior border furrow narrow andshallow, straight or slightly bending forward. Preglabellar fieldnarrow to absent. Librigenae narrow, with a very long genal spine. Thorax of 12 segments. Pygidium transversal semicircu-lar in outline, with 6 pairs of marginal spines, of which the lastpair is broader and triangular. Axis narrow and short, with 4–5axial rings and a short postaxial ridge. Pygidial border wider,without distinct border furrow. |
