Sulcocephalus was named by Wilson (1948) [Sepkoski's age data: Cm Fran-l Cm Fran-u Sepkoski's reference number: 488,697]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dokimocephalidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
