It was recombined as Jimtylerius temnopterus by Bannikov and Carnevale (2007), Carnevale et al. (2014), Bannikov (2014).

A. Bannikov and G. Carnevale 2007Relatively elongate fish with a deep caudal peduncle. Head relatively short. Maximum body depth equals that of head length. Vomerine teeth present. Lower jaw articulation reaches the vertical from the posterior margin of the orbit. Jaws with multiserial short and blunt teeth. Canines absent. Pharyngeal bones hypertrophied. Pharyngeal teeth moderate to large, molariform. 10 + 14 vertebrae. Caudal skeleton with autogenous hypurals, three epurals, two uroneurals. First uroneural (stegural) partially fused with the ulti- mate centrum. Procurrent spur present. Caudal fin with 17 principal rays, 10 dorsal procurrent rays and 8 ventral procurrent rays. Three supraneural bones. Predorsal formula /0+0/0+2/1+1/. Dorsal fin continuous, notched, with 10 strong spines and nine soft rays. Posterior dorsal-fin pterygiophores trisegmental. Anal fin with three strong spines (2nd and 3rd almost equally long) and seven rays. Pelvics behind pectorals. Caudal fin slightly emarginate. Scales relatively large and cycloid, each scale with 4-7 radii basally. Lateral line complete, very gently arched.
