Agerina was named by Tjernvik (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem O Cara-l Sepkoski's reference number: 2,378,795]. It is not extant. Its type is Agerina erratica.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Leiostegiidae by Jell and Adrain (2002) and Zhou and Zhou (2019).
