Calybole was named by Richter (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: D Fame-m Sepkoski's reference number: 802]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Cyrtosymbole (Calybole) by Osmólska (1962).

It was assigned to Cyrtosymbole by Osmólska (1962); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cyrtosymbolinae by Feist and Lerosey-Aubril (2005).
