Taxonomy
Cummingella was named by Reed (1942) [Cammingella: Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C l Sepkoski's reference number: 2 Cummingella: Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l P Sakm Sepkoski's reference number: 624]. Its type is Phillipsia jonesi. It is the type genus of Cummingellinae.

It was assigned to Proetidae by Jell (2002), Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Cummingellinae by Owens (2003), Lerosey-Aubril (2012), Brezinski (2025).
