Carbonocoryphe was named by Richter and Richter (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-u C Vise-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Carbonocoryphinae by Yuan and Xiang (1998); to Proetidae by Brezinski (1998), Jell and Adrain (2002); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Weaniinae by Hahn et al. (1996), Hahn et al. (2003), Brezinski (2025).
