Kegeliella was named by Lutke (1990) [Sepkoski's age data: D Sieg-u D Emsi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 933]. It is not extant. Its type is Proetus listei.
It was synonymized subjectively with Gerastos by Adrain (1997), Jell and Adrain (2002).
It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetinae by Bault et al. (2021).
