Taxonomy
Pseudohystricurus was named by Ross (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-u O Llvi-l Sepkoski's reference number: 795]. Its type is Pseudohystricurus obesus.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Dimeropygidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
