Thigriffides was named by Hessler (1965) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Griffithidella (Thigriffides) by Hahn and Hahn (1970).

It was assigned to Griffithidella by Hahn and Hahn (1970); to Griffithidinae by Kobayashi and Hamada (1980); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetidae by Salter (1864), Brezinski (1998), Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Phillipsiidae by Brezinski (2003).
