Taxonomy
Winterbergia was named by Hahn and Brauckmann (1975) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Vise-u Sepkoski's reference number: 895]. It is not extant. Its type is Carbonocoryphe hercynica.

It was reranked as Carbonocoryphe (Winterbergia) by Hahn et al. (1996), Vanderlaan and Ebach (2015).

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); to Carbonocoryphe by Hahn et al. (1996), Vanderlaan and Ebach (2015); and to Weaniinae by Müller and Hahn (2019).
