Cybelurus was named by Levitsky (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: O Aren-u O Llde-u Sepkoski's reference number: 795].

It was assigned to Cybelinae by Evitt and Tripp (1977); to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Encrinuridae by Fortey and Droser (1999), Jell and Adrain (2002).
