Digonus was named by Guerich (1909) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi-l D Emsi-u Sepkoski's reference number: 902,1106]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Homalonotus (Digonus) by Pillet (1961); it was reranked as Burmeisteria (Digonus) by Berry and Boucot (1973).

It was assigned to Homalonotus by Pillet (1961); to Burmeisteria by Berry and Boucot (1973); to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Homalonotidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Homalonotinae by Thomas (1977) and Bault et al. (2021).
