Parapilekia was named by Kobayashi (1934) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l O Aren-u Sepkoski's reference number: 2,80]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); to Pilekiidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Pilekiinae by Perez-Peris et al. (2021).
