Pharostomina was named by Sdzuy (1955) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l O Trem-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066].

It was assigned to Calymenidae by Robison and Pantoja-Alor (1968); to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pharostomatidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
