Taxonomy
Callianassa whiteavesi was named by Woodward (1896). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Comox River (Newcombe collection), which is in a Santonian/Maastrichtian marine horizon in Canada.

It was corrected as Callianassa whiteavesii by Woodward (1896), Woodward (1900), Rathbun (1926); it was recombined as Calliax whiteavesi by Schweitzer et al. (2003), Schweitzer et al. (2010).
